After I'd done a bunch of these, I knew more about art history and thought I'd better look into Rembrandt. He was also a serial self-portraitist and people love his work for its psychological insight. I don't know if this is one of his best paintings ever, but I've always liked Athena, so I went for it.
This was an interesting exercise in trying to replicate the goopy texture, imprecise brushwork, and earth colors that Rembrandt is known for in a very precise, decidedly non-goopy digital medium. It was very hard. I'm not super satisfied with the results, but I definitely learned a lesson here.
This was the last of the mini-series of 10 portraits that were focused on the face and likeness. I definitely learned a lot, and it made me feel better about drawing my face in all kinds of contexts in future artworks.
