This is an adorable portrait of the painter Marie-Suzanne Giroust, by her husband Alexander Roslin. They seemed to have a happy marriage. He makes her look so charming and playful. The veil half-covering her face is unusual in a portrait, and the shimmering fabrics (Roslin's specialty) were a lot of fun to render.
I also loved that Marie-Suzanne Giroust was a female artist. She was one of 15 total women to be admitted to the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in its 145-year history. She was primarily a pastellist. There's a few of her works on Wikipedia. This portrait of her daughter holding a dog is a lot of fun.
