This painting has such a mysterious atmosphere. Why are the two ladies dressed the same? Why do they look so serious? Why are they in this dark corner of the room? It was a lot of fun to recreate.
Wikipedia says that this piece inspired Frida Kahlo's painting The Two Fridas, which shows two different aspects of herself holding hands. I think about The Two Fridas all the time, especially when I am feeling conflicted within myself. We all contain multitudes. This whole project was a way to express that. And this Chasséreau painting suggests that idea well, too, especially when I put my face on both figures.
The original deadline for 2018's 100 Day Project was August 3. As of a week and a half after that, by the time I'd finished this entry, I'd gotten through only half of the 100. Clearly by this point I was no longer paying any attention to the original project deadline.
