100 Days of Art History Jinjins

Xue Tao 薛涛

Here's another attempt to learn a little more about East Asian art and history. I also tried to put some Chinese on the right, from the little I remember from my language classes in college. Forgive the bad quality there.

This depicts Xue Tao, a female Chinese poet from the Tang dynasty. Her books and scrolls clearly mark her as a literary figure. Tang dynasty poems are still a big deal in Chinese culture, and many still circulate and are memorized as part of a basic education, even though they're from a thousand years ago. It was nice to see that a woman took part in this tradition.
