Portrait of Elisabetta Gonzaga

This is a portrait by famous Renaissance artist Raphael. I love this lady's scorpion crown and the world weary expression on her face. I also found her dress surprisingly modern. She's got a timelessness to her. Raphael is mainly known for painting sweet Madonnas, and I found this a nice departure from that.

Elisabetta Gonzaga seems to have been a nice, refined, cultured lady whose court attracted writers, artists, and scholars. Seems like a good subject for a portrait.

Toward the end of the project, I redid old entries to compare progress and give the original artworks their proper due. You can see my redo of this Portrait of Elisabetta Gonzaga at entry 92.
