Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 (Whistler's Mother)

This entry now looks so sloppy and dashed off to me. But at the time, it did make me realize how important the frames in the background are to balance the composition. Doing this copy, even this simple version, showed me that this really is just an arrangement in grey and black. It's more interested in balancing out all the shapes and colors than the subject herself.

Toward the end of the project, I redid old entries to compare progress and give the original artworks their proper due. You can see my redo of Whistler's Mother at entry 99.
